Bleaching

Bleaching is probably the most common treatment that patients discuss and ask for in dental clinics, which is why companies that make this material have significant funds in researching and developing these materials. Bleaching is practically the beginning of aesthetic dentistry. Nowadays, it does not mean a beautiful smile without including white and shiny teeth; like, bleaching is high in patient requirements.

MECHANISM

Enamel is the outer semi-permeable layer of the tooth grinder, where whitening drugs (carbamide or hydrogen peroxide) penetrate the enamel and react chemically. With the discoloured substances that have previously penetrated it, neutralizing them and consequently discolouring them, they whiten their yellow tint and, therefore, the yellow shade of the teeth.

SUCCESS OF THE WHITE PROCESS

The result varies from person to person. The improvement of the colour is considered a given. Still, the degree depends on the cause and the degree of discolouration, on the permeability of the enamel of the tooth and the cooperation of the patient. With the advanced materials and whitening methods we have today, we almost always see noticeable results by 3 to 4 tones of whiter and shinier teeth.

PROCEDURE

Bleaching can be done in two ways, either in the doctor's office or in the comfort of your own home. It is recommended before the procedure to clean the calculus and polish it to remove all surface stains, as well as to check for the presence of resin seals (white) in the aesthetic zone (front teeth), which must be replaced after bleaching, as the bleaching process does not affect them. Therefore they will remain coloured as they are, and so after whitening, they will look different colour from the teeth.

WHITENING IN THE CLINIC

The lips and gums are isolated for protection from the bleaching drug, containing 32% Carbamide Peroxide during this process. Then they have applied teeth with bleach and placed in front of the mouth a unique lamp that activates the drug. The material is changed every 15 minutes 2 to 3 times depending on the manufacturer's instructions. In the end, it is removed, and the teeth are polished. The colour difference is noticeable immediately, but over the next 2 to 3 days, it increases as the material remains activated in the enamel.

Pre-prepared splints will be used at home for a few hours in the next few days to stabilize the result, and you can use them in the future to restore the colour if you get whitening material from your dentist.

During the procedure and 2 to 3 days after completion, avoid foods with solid colours such as coffee, tea, soft drinks and wine, and smoking.
